My Approach

My approach is data-driven and outcome-oriented. Using my understanding of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Anti-Racism (IDEAA) frameworks, principles, advocacy, and policies along with comprehensive actionable techniques that are rooted in intersectional, anti-ableist, critical disability trans-inclusive feminist, anti-colonial, anti-racist perspectives with elements of organizational sociology, and change management.

“I work to understand the structures, cultures, people, and processes that constitute systems to help people make better ones. I rely on data of all kinds to understand, justify, process, and enable change. I believe that people can change and grow, that systems can adapt to undo inequity rather than perpetuate it, and that we can both build and fight our way to a better world.”

What is IDEAA?

IDEAA stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Anti-Racism.

Inclusion is the act of creating a supportive and respectful environment where everyone’s talents are valued, celebrated, and empowered to participate fully.

Diversity refers to the range of individual differences. Diversity is achieved through actions such as collaboration and consultation with the communities being represented. Building trust explicitly counters present-day and historical inequalities and ensures accountability of accurate, authentic, and meaningful representation of a range of individual differences.

Equity is about ensuring everyone has access to the same opportunities and resources regardless of their background or circumstances. Equity is achieved by acknowledging the structural barriers resulting from historical and present-day inequalities within society and actively trying to eliminate them.

Accessibility refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments to improve equal access for everyone. Ontario and many other provinces have provincial laws to improve accessibility for people with disabilities including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Ontario Building Code.

Anti-racism is defined as the work of actively opposing racism by advocating for changes in political, economic, and social life. Anti-racism tends to be an individualized approach and set up in opposition to individual racist behaviors and impacts.
